Ferrari 458 Challenge

The 458 Challenge has made its world premiere debut in Maranello during the Annual Dealer Meeting, a traditional event that brings together the representatives of Ferrari’s international sales network.

The new berlinetta, which will flank the F430 Challenge in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli in the 2011 season, is the fifth model used by Ferrari in its one-make championship which, next year, will be extended to include a new Asia-Pacific series.

Coming just a few months after the Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling of the 458 Italia on which it is based, the 458 Challenge introduces a number of important modifications to adapt it for competition use.

The direct injection 4497 cc V8 remains strictly in production tune, with an output of 570 hp at 9,000 rpm. That said, modifications have been made to the gear ratios and calibration of its dual-clutch F1 gearbox to guarantee higher torque at lower revs. The 458 Challenge is also equipped with the E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version, a first for Ferrari’s track-only cars.

Significant work has also gone into cutting the car’s weight. This focused on both the exterior and interior with Ferrari’s engineers concentrating in particular on reducing the thickness of the bodyshell panels and on using lightweight materials, such as carbon-fibre and Lexan.

The new 458 Challenge also has a specific suspension set-up with solid aluminium bushings, stiffer springs, single-rate dampers, centre-nut 19” racing rims, larger dimension Pirelli slicks and a ride height lowered by 30mm all round. It is also equipped with the new generation Brembo CCM2 brakes which debuted on the 599XX, Ferrari’s extreme experimental laboratory car, and which are integrated with an ABS system that features two configurations - low grip and high performance for dry surfaces.

Another first for a Ferrari Challenge model is the adoption of the F1-Trac traction control system, the most sophisticated of its kind. Developed in-house by Ferrari, the F1-Trac system constantly monitors levels of grip for maximum high-performance road-holding. Two specific track-biased calibrations – wet and dry - have been developed for this application, with control logic and strategies derived from Ferrari’s extensive racing experience in the F1 and GT championships. The F1-Trac is completely integrated with the E-Diff to guarantee maximum acceleration out of corners.

The required ABS, F1-Trac and E-Diff calibration settings are selected via the manettino on the steering wheel, the first time this solution has been adopted on a model developed for the Ferrari Challenge series. The driver can thus either chose from the WET or DRY configurations. In high grip conditions it is also possible to select CT-OFF to de-activate the F1-Trac traction control.

In the course of the intensive development sessions involved in honing the 458 Challenge for the track, the engineers also managed to improve the car’s lap time at Fiorano by two seconds over that of its predecessor, resulting in a new record of just 1’16.5”. Equally impressive is the amount of lateral grip the new car generates – up to 1.6G.

With the new 458 Challenge, Ferrari is offering its sportier clients - professional and gentlemen drivers alike - a car that is extremely responsive, with great performance and superb handling. This mid-rear V8-engined berlinetta will allow Ferrari Challenge participants to enjoy to the full the exhilarating cut and thrust of the race weekends on the world’s leading circuits, as well as the passion that has always been an integral part of Ferrari’s one-make championship.

The Sporty Spirit Of Ferrari 599 SA Aperta

1.The Sporty Spirit Of Ferrari 599 SA Aperta New Generation in 2011
Ferrari is delighted to announce the presentation of the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show. This is a special series model of which a strictly limited number of just 80 will be built. All have already been sold. Ferrari chose to build 80 SA Apertas in celebration of Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary. The SA nomenclature also pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina whose company and work have been linked to the most successful road-going cars ever built at Maranello.

2.The Sporty Spirit Of Ferrari 599 SA Aperta New Generation in 2011
The Ferrari 599 SA Aperta is a true roadster which allows its occupants to enjoy the superlative emotions afforded by our signature front-engined V12 architecture in a completely open-top setting. In fact, it has just a light soft top designed to be resorted to only if the weather gets particularly bad. A low-slung windscreen and the fact that it crouches lower to the ground than our other models lend the SA Aperta an exceptionally aerodynamic sleekness. Its profile arches back from the A-post to two aerodynamic fins beautifully integrating the two roll-bars which themselves cleverly mimic the outline of the seats.
The chassis has been redesigned to deliver a standard of stiffness comparable to that of a closed berlinetta and there is a negligible weight difference also, thanks to work done on the chassis structure.

3.The Sporty Spirit Of Ferrari 599 SA Aperta New Generation in 2011
Thanks to the 670 CV engine beneath its bonnet, the SA Aperta beautifully embodies the sporty spirit of the Ferrari 599 incorporating Ferrari’s most advanced technology to deliver absolutely benchmark performance and superb driving pleasure. Its interior too is stylishly sporty with particularly sophisticated materials, trim and colours used throughout. The virtually endless combinations available guarantee that each and every SA Aperta is absolutely unique.

Novitec Rosso Race 606 Ferrari California

606 hp / 446 kW from an eight-cylinder supercharged engine propel it to a top speed of 325 km/h and its ultra-sporty racing suit with carbon-fiber components fits it like an aerodynamic second skin: The NOVITEC ROSSO RACE 606 based on the Ferrari California will celebrate its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2011.

At the heart of the supercar lies the supercharged 4.3-liter V8-engine, which the NOVITEC ROSSO specialists developed specifically for this front-engine sports car. This engine is available for the special model RACE 606 and for any standard California model.

The compressor system consists of a mechanical supercharger driven by the crankshaft via a cogged V-belt. It produces a maximum boost pressure of 0.4 bar. The conversion also includes a water-to-air intercooler, a newly designed intake manifold and larger injectors.

For better exhaust-gas flow the high-performance engine is fitted with a flap-controlled NOVITEC ROSSO high-performance exhaust system with sport catalysts. The stainless-steel exhaust system features four black-coated tailpipes and offers various sound settings that are controlled by the Manettino button on the steering wheel. The driver can choose between a more subdued and a markedly sporty exhaust note.

The high-tech components are coordinated by newly calibrated engine electronics that ensure extraordinary power yield, everyday suitability beyond reproach and compliance with strict Euro IV emission standards.

The NOVITEC ROSSO engine conversion bumps power output from standard 460 hp / 338 kW to 606 hp / 446 kW at 7,900 rpm. Simultaneously peak torque jumps from 485 Nm to 603 Nm at 5,500 rpm.

Powered by this engine the NOVITEC ROSSO RACE 606 delivers impressive performance: The sprint from 0 - 100 km/h takes less than 3.8 seconds. Top speed increases to 325 km/h.

At this level of performance favorable aerodynamic properties are essential. The NOVITEC ROSSO designers went into the wind tunnel to develop body components that further reduce lift on front and rear axle and thus contribute to further optimized directional stability at high speed.

All parts of the aerodynamic-enhancement package are made from matte clear-coated carbon-fiber, making them especially light and yet highly resistant. The front and rear spoilers together with the rear diffuser create an optimal aerodynamic balance and are essential for the racing look of the sports car. Rocker panel blades, side air outlets in the front fenders, mirror covers and the rear molding add further thrilling highlights.

Also made entirely from carbon fibers is the hood centerpiece, the radiator grille, the outer skin of the folding hardtop and the taillight surrounds.

The motorsports look is rounded out with a matte carbon-fiber coating of the three-piece NOVITEC ROSSO NF3 wheels. To further emphasize the wedge shape of the sports car the wheels were manufactured in a staggered combination of size 9Jx21 for the front and in size 11.5Jx22 for the rear axle. The matching PZero high-performance tires in sizes 255/30 ZR 21 and 315/25 ZR 22 are supplied by technology partner and Formula 1 supplier Pirelli.

Specifically calibrated to this tire/wheel combination are the NOVITEC ROSSO sport springs, which lower the ride height of the Ferrari by some 35 millimeters. They are combined with a feature designed to further improve any California`s suitability for everyday use. The hydraulic front lift system is activated at the push of a button in the cockpit. It raises the front of the car by 40 millimeters and facilitates navigating speed bumps and parking garage ramps. At a second push of the button or automatically upon reaching a speed of 80 km/h the front reverts to its original position.

The interior of the NOVITEC ROSSO RACE 606 can also be custolized extensively. The options include scuff plates made from the same material as the aerodynamic-enhancement components and longer shift paddles on the steering wheel.

Upon customer request NOVITEC ROSSO creates especially exclusive or extremely lightweight interiors in any desired color. Request for more individualization can be fulfilled with carbon-fiber elements that match the exterior and a safe-grip steering wheel covered with suede or Alcantara.

It is possible to blow huge amounts of money on car modifications, ruining your automobile and ending up with a fuel drinking stodgy bone shaker that looks like a tacky Christmas tree from last year. This site is intended to assist you in deciding which mods to do and gives a realistic opinion of what the car will end up like with various levels of modification and gives a common sense guide on the pitfalls to avoid and common mistakes.
Car modification & car styling

Track cars are rebuilt each time they are raced and they are set up for optimum conditions on the flat surface of the track. When it comes to modifying a daily runaround car or hot hatch - we have to tune and apply modifications to our cars to work for a year without a service, run over pot holes and speed humps and cope with a variety of weather conditions and loads. We need to establish the sensible car tuning modifications (car mods) that will cope well with everyday driving but help you to get the maximum enjoyment from it. Styling modifications and car styling trends frequently change, we keep you up to date with the latest styling parts, modifications and tips with practical advice.

My motivation for creating this site was the misleading claims made by the manufacturers of performance parts. They often quote power gains of 30bhp and in reality this was achieved on a v8 engine in ideal lab conditions. In the real world some of these mods can rob you of low down power and Torque.

New:Car 2010 GMC Terrain

Although Pontiac is due to lose the Torrent as it becomes a "niche brand," GMC will gain a small crossover in the form of the 2010 Terrain. Based off the Theta platform that underpins the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and 2010 Cadillac SRX, the Terrain serves as the smallest offering within GMC's portfolio.

Despite its lightly altered cosmetics, there is no doubting the close relation to the Equinox. Nevertheless, the Terrain aims for a bolder appearance, thanks to both its large three-element grille and pronounced fender flares. We're guessing its design was intended to appear tougher than its Chevy and Cadillac counterparts, but we'll withhold judgment until we see it in the metal.

Like the Equinox, the Terrain is available in both front-and all-wheel-drive variants. Buyers can choose between two engines, although both come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The base engine is a 182-hp 2.4-liter I-4 with direct fuel injection, reportedly capable of reaching a best-in-class 30 mpg highway. Fuel efficiency is bolstered by the Terrain's electric power steering, as well as a driver-selectable 'ECO' mode. This mode tweaks the throttle response, shift programming, and sets the torque converter to lockup at lower speeds.

New Car 2010 Jaguar XFR

It's no secret that we like the Jaguar XF at Automobile Magazine. The keys to our XF Supercharged Four-Seasons test car are rarely sitting around and we keep piling on the miles. We even named the newest Jaguar sedan a 2009 All-Star. But, like you, we've seen the spy photos and knew the English brand had something hotter coming. That hotter something is the XFR, released here at the Detroit show.

The big news for the XFR is its engine. While the top-spec 2009 XF made due with the older, 4.2-liter supercharged V-8 with 420 hp, the new 2010 XFR gets a new 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with a BMW M5-conquering 510 hp.

Maybe even more telling is the torque. The blown Jaguar engine tops the BMW's same size (though normally-aspirated) V-10 by 78 lb-ft with 461 lb-ft at a rather low 2500 rpm. The XFR's engine even comes close to the larger, 6.2-liter V-8 in the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG in the torque department.
