ASTON MARTIN RAPIDE CONCEPT (new)

Can you notice how low the car is. If it was a ’60s Le Mans racer, Rapide would be badged GT52—just 12 inches taller than a GT40. For a four-door in a driving world hijacked by legislation, that’s incredibly low—half an inch lower than a Ferrari Scaglietti.

The Aston Martin Rapide is a four-door, high-performance sport sedan, which British luxury marque Aston Martin plans to introduce in late 2009 to compete with the Maserati Quattroporte and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, along with the upcoming Audi A7, Porsche Panamera and BMW Gran Turismo. It was first presented as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show in 2006. The Rapide name is a reference to the Lagonda Rapide, a sedan produced by Lagonda, now part of Aston Martin. The car is based on an Aston Martin DB9.

Aston Martin has announced that the Rapide will be built at a dedicated plant at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria. Production will start in 2009. One new feature that may appear on the production version is a full-length glass roof.





The handsome Rapide concept, for many the star of the NAIAS, is no ordinary Aston.

(New)Toyota iQ : Tiny car from Toyota

The car was first shown in concept form at Frankfurt last year, and will be produced in late 2008.

Toyota is touting the iQ as the ultimate refined mode of transportation and at less than 118 inches in length, it’s certainly small enough to be a devoted city runabout.

The iQ measures 2,985mm in length with a 2,000mm wheelbase, which aids in both drivability and interior volume. The inside benefits from many of the angles and curves that adorn the exterior sheetmetal, including a triangular center console fitted with a 5.8-inch display. Additional storage comes courtesy of 50/50 split folding rear seats and an under-floor fuel tank that maximizes interior space.

Toyota didn't divulge what kind of powertrains the iQ would come equipped with, but sales are slated to begin in late 2008, with production expected to crest the 100,000 mark during its first year.

Mazda2 released in two versions, namely the standard (with emblems S) and a more sporty variant with emblems R. The difference can be seen from the use of fog lights (model R), electric folding mirrors, and spoiler on the trunk lid. Wheel size was different, for the S version is used profile 185/55 R15 tires, while the R version installed size 195/45 R16.

Mazda2 Design and Technology

The output of its 5.2-liter V10 has been increased to 412 kW (560 hp); vehicle weight has been reduced by roughly 100 kilograms (220.46 lb). The R8 GT accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 320 km/h (198.84 mph).

The R8 high-performance sports car has been a winner from the very beginning. This applies to both the production models, winners of the “World Performance Car” Award in 2008 (R8) and in 2010 (R8 V10), and to the race car, the R8 LMS, which won 23 races in its first season and claimed three championships. Back in 2010, Porsche was looking for something to slot in the middle of the 911 and the Boxster. It had to be pretty darn good, as the 911 is a legend among car fans and the Boxster was a hit for the automaker. What they came up with was the Cayman.

First launched in the 2010 model year, the Cayman is a coupe derived from Porsche’s second generation Boxster convertible, yet it looks like a 911 in the front. The name Cayman is an alternate spelling of caiman, a reptile in the same family as the alligator. Some thought the name came from the Cayman Islands, but that’s incorrect.

After the first generation Cayman was debuted and widely accepted, the second was introduced on February 21, 2011. The power was upped, the transmission was replaced, and the overall performance was vastly superior to the previous model. As an example, this baby 911 could hit 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds.
